Colors of the Wind–the story of blind artist and champion runner George Mendoza

For children and children at heart, an evening with an artist and former champion runner whose disability forms the basis for his unusual artwork. Describing his condition as similar to “looking through a kaledioscope,” George uses his literal vision of the world to create fantastical and colorful images. George Mendoza will discuss his life story, his artwork, and the challenges that blindness has brought into his life. He will sign copies of his picture book biography, Colors of the Wind: the story of blind artist and champion runner George Mendoza. In New York for an exhibition and celebration of his artwork at The Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, participants have the opportunity to see his art in real life after meeting the artist.
