Author and artist Cooper Lee Bombardier has been performing and publishing about his experience being trans for two decades. Join Cooper Lee Bombardier, author of the memoir Pass with Care, and Carter Sickels, author of the novel The Prettiest Star, as they discuss their recent publications. Pass With Care is an annotated collection of essays, performances, interviews, and lectures that contextualizes the act of transition and changing identity as something that is as much shaped through the act of writing about it as through any physical and social transformations one might undergo.
Cooper Lee Bombardier is a writer and visual artist from the South Shore of Boston. His writing appears in many publications, such as The Kenyon Review, BOMB, and The Rumpus and in 12 anthologies, including the recent Lambda Literary Award-winning anthology, The Remedy–Essays on Queer Health Issues and the anthology Meanwhile, Elsewhere: Speculative Fiction From Transgender Writers, which won the 2018 American Library Association Stonewall Book Awards Barbara Gittings Literature Award. Pass with Care is his first book.
Carter Sickels is the author of the novel The Prettiest Star, which Oprah Magazine and Entertainment Weekly selected as recommended reading for 2020. His novel The Evening Hour was an Oregon Book Award finalist and a Lambda Literary Award finalist. His writing appears in Guernica, BuzzFeed, Bellevue Literary Review, and other places. Carter is the recipient of the 2013 Lambda Literary Emerging Writer Award, and fellowships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the MacDowell Colony.
