As a short, introductory course, we will be covering the usual areas one would find in a martial arts class (stretching, conditioning, technique, theory), but in a context that uses the experiences of attendees to shape the direction of the class. The class will focus on creating an inclusive discussion that would allow for each attendee to find their own motivation for their being a part of the class, with the hope that each individual’s motivations and drives will benefit the environment of the class as a whole. Add in some sweat, shadow boxing, and maybe a dance break or two and you have a challenging but accessible and confidence-boosting good time for all! Trans & cis women, non-binary folks, gender-nonconforming people, and/or trans men are encouraged to attend!
Participants should wear clothing in which they are comfortable stretching and sweating. Bonus points for those who can bring pads, but this is not a requirement to attend. Let’s work it out!
Information on Instructors:
Marianne Kay: Has a background in Tae Kwon Do and worked extensively with St. Vincent’s Rape Crisis. She wrote the syllabus for this class, based on her experience of being female and having to live in the world at the same time.
Shawn Brody: Learned how nasty the world can be at a young age. Took a few punches and gave a few back! This world never surpises me how inhuman it can be. Just a punk kid thats want to be part of the solution and not the problem.
