This is a space for young people, ages 13-25, to hang out, get to know each other, and talk books, poems, zines, and other media.

Jack is a Afro-futurist and YA fiction addict, a radical community organizer and counselor in an NYC school, anti-racist white queer cat co-habitant, and baker. Sara is a South Asian social worker who loves deconstructing nationalist histories, daydreaming (read: imagining more just, compassionate worlds), and working to shift culture.

Bluestockings Education Project presents the Icarus Project Radical Mental Health Workshop Series: Explorations in Personal Transformation and Collective Liberation

The Icarus Project NYC is a local chapter of http://theicarusproject.net, a radical mental health a support network and media project by and for people who experience the world in ways that are often diagnosed as mental illness. We envision a new culture that allows the space and freedom for exploring different states of being, and recognizes that breakdown can be the entrance to breakthrough. We aim to create a language that is so vast and rich that it expresses the infinite diversity of human experiences. Our monthly workshops explore these themes through peer-based discussion, guest presentations, art, forum theater and more. For more information about this month’s event see: http://nycicarus.org

Come and meet people who are just as confused as you are about public restrooms and getting dressed in the morning! We provide a safe space for anyone with a non-binary gender identity to discuss one’s experiences as we defy society’s mainstream conception of gender.

We welcome gender identities that include but are not limited to: androgynous, agender, bigender, demigender, gender non-conforming, gender variant, genderfluid, genderqueer, non-binary, transmasculine, transfeminine.

Get On the Stage

Get On the Stage is an open mic based around uplifting and centering the voices of Queer/Trans People of Color, Trans, Two Spirit, Gender Non-Conforming, Non-Binary, Intersex and anyone who falls between these labels. Speakers can bring poems, prose, music, stand-up and spoken word of any kind.

Cis white queer folks are prohibited from participating but are encouraged to attend to support and help boost the voices of marginalized speakers.
